SDP made the paper

Our city does not receive the Anchorage Daily News paper but teachers get it electronically throughout the school year.  It was when I was reading the paper online today that I noticed our place referenced in the paper.  Whew!  We're a big deal.

A final note on the quakes yesterday...  The experience of people throughout the island during the quake was quite different.  Structures downhill from the school and located near the water's edge or cliffs had the heck shaken out of them.  The school and our apartment had only slight movement.  In some places shampoo bottles fell, shelves emptied on the floor, and in another, a macaw bird fell from its perch in its cage and his food spilled all over the place.  Perhaps it has to do with the age of the building, the construction of it, and the underlying rocks below it.

"Magnitude 5.9 earthquake rattles building." Anchorage Daily News 06 May 2011: A-5. print.
