The Alaska Sealife Center out of Seward visited our school this week. Overall, it was awesome. We learned about seals, puffins, bioluminescence, and squid. The kids really loved the hands on aspect of it. Below are the highlights from our last session today, squid dissection.

| Squid. The feel was cool, slimy and fragile, yet it was not like anything I have ever touched before. |

| A squid's mouth. The beak, or that little black dot in the center is actually shaped like a "V". Beaks are used to grab and consume food. |

| Removal of the ink pouch. These kids were very good with their hands considering how slippery the squid was and how tiny its delicate parts were. This is good information for the future in case I need some type of emergency surgery out here, say an appendectomy. |
