Interior AK's Recent Weather

While browsing the paper online today, I came across this blurb.  The winter out here has been icier with more snow this year.  A good part of the harbor froze too--a rarity, I'm told.  Despite the ice and few weeks below 30 and occasional temperatures skirting around the single digits, I should not complain.  We're miles and miles from the area that is reported below.  On the plus side, crab season has been hugely successful this year--I am unsure if this has anything to do with the weather.
