Back trails hike

Drove out to the upper reservoir on the back trails and hiked to the cliffs above the airport.  It has been raining on and off this week followed by what feels to be sultry appearances of the sun.  On days like this it is just to dang pretty to be inside, especially when the ocean takes on that blue.  Mix the colors, the sweet taste of salmon berries, and the scent of the sea air in the breeze...  Enjoy the photos.

Looking towards Egg Island (the round chunk of land in the center of the image).

The runway.

Ambiguous picture of a whale.  Did you know that whales make a sound that closely resembles a horse neigh/air puff that they do?  At first it spooked me, we were very high up on the cliff edge and the whale was way out.  Since there are no threats of bears here, I knew it wasn't that all too familiar snort that they can make if you get too close.  Left of this photo there was a pod of whales that contained at least eight of them.  It was neat.

Tundra.  This is what tundra looks like.  What the photo fails to show is that tundra is really bumpy and not at all flat.

Moss berries.  When they turn black, it is time to pick them.  I can't wait.

Tundra.

Salmon berry.  They come in two colors, red and orange.   They taste so good.
