And so we begin our journey. Yesterday we left a behind a summer of transition between Montana, Wisconsin, and Indiana. We're almost to our final destination in which we begin our first teaching jobs, but for now, home base is here in ANC. We arrived last night after a long car ride to St. Louis, from there to Denver, and finally to Anchorage. What a long trip. The last lag of the plane trip was very disorienting. As we flew west, the sun continued to illuminate the sky. 50 miles out of town the pilot announced that we were soon to arrive. We looked out the window and saw large mountains and a lot of snow. For a moment, I wondered how we would handle cooler temps again after a summer of high humidity and temperatures in the 90's. Once we arrived in the ANC area, the snow disappeared and the temperature was a comfortable 58 degrees-bearable compared to the 98 is was in Denver. One interesting note of mention is that the sun last night did not set until 11:30 p.m., with twilight around 12:30 a.m. When we went to sleep around 1:30 a.m. and it was still relatively bright outside, dark enough for headlights, but bright enough to look around and read street signs. It felt more like 10:00 p.m. in Montana or 8:00 p.m. in Wisconsin or Indiana. It certainly will take some time to get accustomed to this. Another neat detail is that there is such a thing as Alaska time for those of you not familiar. Alaska time is one hour earlier than pacific time.
Lastly, I'd like to share the daylight stats for today.
